Once a summer resort for the British Raj elite, it remains the terminus of the narrow-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, or “Toy Train,” completed in 1881. It is famed for the distinctive black tea grown on plantations that dot its surrounding slopes. In the backdrop is Mt. Kanchenjunga, among the world’s highest peaks. Visit the Tiger Hills before dawn to see the Sun Rise over Mount Everest. Take a ride on toy train. Visit the Tibetan Bazaar and the Mountaineering Institute. A visit to Western Sikkim with Kanchanjunga in the backdrop will be a mesmerising. Pelling also has many treks besides the famous monastery of Pemyangtse. Continuing your visit, you will arrive Gangtok – the Capital of Sikkim. It is an important Buddhist Centre. You will visit the Royal Palace and also Rumtek Monastery.

The area of this district is approximately 2,172, bounded by Tibet (China) to the north, Bhutan to the south-west and Sela ranges separated from West Kament district in the east. Visit Tawang Gompa overlooking part of Tibet. This was in the route selected by Dalai Lama to enter India. The Monastery is one of the largest in Asia with 1000 Monks. The Library has priceless collections of Books. Next Visit Kaziranga National Park to see One Horn Rhino. This Park boasts of wildlife particularly One hornd Rhino, which one can see leisurely from Central Ranges on Elephant. One can also visit the Woodland area in Eastern Ranges to spot the Migratory Birds.

Eastern ranges mostly consist of woodland and it is here that you can see a wide variety of Birds. Bengal Tigers can be seen by visiting Sunderbans in South of Kolkata. You can see these famed Tigers in mangrove Forests and also swimming in various channels. You will cruise through the waterways to spot the wild life like spotted Deer, Long Water Monitor or Kingfisher. On the eastern side it borders with Bangladesh. There are about 300 Tigers.
